Sanjay Dutt & Manyata solemnise marriage
Actor Sanjay Dutt on Monday married Manyata according to Hindu rituals in the presence of family and friends in Mumbai on Monday.
The inquisitive paparazzi were kept strictly away. The two had a private wedding ceremony in Goa last week where they had a court marriage.
"Yes, Sanju is now officially married to Manyata. We all attended the simple private ceremony on Monday afternoon. We've never seen Sanju more at peace with himself. He feels his troubles are finally over. And he feels Manyata has brought into his life that stability that was lacking for so many years," said one of the invitees. "Her entry into his life coincided with the end of Sanju's troubles to a large extent. So he considers her very lucky for him," the invitee added.
Apparently, Sanjay has allowed his new wife to take over all his financial dealings. She also handles his new film production company.
In all probability Sanjay's next release would be Suniel Shetty's production "EMI". Produced by Suniel's company Popcorn Entertainment, the film also stars Malaika Arora and Urmila Matondkar.
"All his work in 'EMI' is over. We just have a few more days to go. Then the film goes into post-production. We hope to release in May-June 2008," Suniel told IANS.
Sanjay made a brief appearance as himself in Rohit Jugraj's just released "Superstar".
"Though harassed by so many problems, Mr. Sanjay Dutt didn't hesitate for a minute in agreeing to be in my film. I wish him all happiness," said Jugraj.
Sanjay marries Manyata as per Hindu rituals
Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and his long-time girlfriend Manyata on Monday solemnised their marriage as per Hindu rituals at a simple ceremony, four days after their secret court wedding in Goa. Ending all speculation, Dutt (48) and Manyata Dilnasheen Amir Ahmed Sheikh (32) exchanged their nuptial vows at the bride's residence at suburban Versova.
The formal wedding was attended by close friends. However, Dutt's family members, including sisters Priya Dutt and Namrata Gaurav, were conspicuous by their absence.
After the marriage, a beaming Dutt, wearing a golden hued kurta-pyjama with a red embroidered 'chunri,' said he was very happy and thanked all his fans.
Lobbing a question at the media, Dutt asked: "Are you happy with my marriage?" On getting an affirmative reply, he thanked them and said, "I am also very happy and I thank you for the positive support."
Manyata, who appeared overwhelmed by the occasion, said, "I am so happy that I don't have words to express."
Manyata looked every inch a typical Indian bride with her forehead and her hair parting full of sindoor.
Asked about his daughter Trishala's reaction, Dutt paused and said, "She is happy."
Trishala (18) was born out of Dutt's first wife Richa Sharma, who died of cancer. She is abroad and told a TV channel "I have nothing to say."
Dutt, whose second marriage to model Rhea Pillai ended in a divorce, is now on bail pending appeal in the Supreme Court in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
According to industry sources, Sanjay married Manyata at a five star hotel in Goa before a registrar on February 7 under the Special Marriage Act with a few close friends as witness.
Priya Dutt said she was happy for her brother but claimed she was not aware of the marriage.
Sisters miss Dutt wedding
Sisters Priya and Namrata Dutt were conspicuous by their absence at Sanjay Dutt and Manyata's wedding which took place at Manyata's friend Pradeep Sinha's apartment on Monday morning.
Asked about why his sisters were not present, Dutt told journalists that they were on their way. Later, however, Priya told mediapersons that she was unaware of the wedding and didn't even know the venue.
"I didn't know about the wedding. But of course Sanjay and Manyata have my best wishes," she told TOI, speaking on behalf of her family.
According to sources close to the family, the sisters received an invite to the wedding via a sentimental SMS from Sanjay just after the midnight of February 9.
Namrata and Priya, who live in Imperial Heights at Pali Hill, where Sanjay also has his house, reportedly stayed away because they were hurt about being included in the guest list at the last minute. They were also upset that their brother had not told them about his wedding ceremony in Goa on February 7.
The actor had a civil wedding with Manyata during the outdoor shooting of his film 'EMI', where two of his friends, Dharam Oberoi and Bunty Walia, were witnesses.
Though the sisters were in the dark, Sanjay had planned the wedding ceremonies three weeks ago.
"All Baba's (Sanjay's pet name) close friends from India and overseas were asked by him to be in Mumbai on February 11 to take part in a celebration," says an insider.
That is why all the actor's friends, including Imran, Prashant Gunjalkar (owner of Poison), Matt aka Malvinder Singh, Sarvajeet Bhandare, Yusuf Nulwala, Prashant Gilani and others were present at the ceremony in Amarnath Apartments.
Although the star denied his marriage in the morning, he was seen leaving his Pali Hill residence at around 10 am for Amarnath Apartments. It was a quick ceremony after which Dutt and Manyata came down to pose for mediapersons.
"I am very happy and thank you for the positive support you have given me," a beaming Sanjay told the media. Manyata, wearing a golden sari with pure gold embroidery and weighed down by jewellery worth almost a crore, declared that she was so happy that she was unable to express her happiness.
Manyata will take on two roles from February 12. Besides being Mrs Sanjay Dutt, she will also head Sanjay Dutt Productions.
The company is to produce a dozen films and Manyata and Dharam Oberoi will handle the day-to-day working of the film production house. They are currently narrowing down on an office for the production house.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt has signed 27 films and is expected not to have a single day free until 2010. "So it will be a working honeymoon for us," Manyata told her close friends. "If Baba misses a single day's shoot, it amounts to a loss of nearly Rs 25 lakh.
